Simply Stylist NY 2016 Recap
Over the weekend, the Simply Stylist ‘Do What You Love’ New York 2016 Fashion & Beauty Conference took over YOTEL New York for a day filled with new relationships, education, and inspiration! We brought in our favorite hostess, Catt Sadler of E! News, and partnered with IFB and Bloglovin’ to make this year’s #SimplyStylistNY one for the books! If you were unable to attend or already having SSW (Simply Stylist Withdrawals), we are right there with you. So, we put together a full recap of everything that happened — down to the details — to make sure this year’s #SimplyStylistNY is not forgotten! From inspiring keynotes to adorable souvenirs, keep reading for the highlights of the Simply Stylist ‘Do What You Love’ New York 2016 Fashion & Beauty Conference!
Keynote #1: Lauren Bushnell, TV Personality + Creator of Sparkle In Her Eye
"Stick to your own style. Stick to who you are. Be true to yourself." — Lauren Bushnell
"Realistically, you're going to have failures... That's where I learned the most." — Lauren Bushnell
Moderated by Bethany Heitman of People StyleWatch, our blogger panel included Holly Nichols of H Nichols Illustrations, Jacey Duprie of Damsel in Dior, and Kat Tanita of With Love From Kat. Holly Nichols’ gorgeous fashion illustrations were the talk of the event — just take a look at her drawing of our Keynote Lauren Bushnell! Damsel in Dior’s Jacey Duprie also proved she is a total #GirlBoss with a book and clothing line in the works, and Kat Tanita shared her honest opinion on what it takes to make it in the industry. If we learned anything from our Blogger Panel, it is that we need embrace our individual uniqueness and let everything else fall into place!
"You can't master your life, but you can master each day." — Jacey Duprie
Our Entrepreneur Panel was moderated by celebrity stylist + beauty expert Denise Caldwell, consisted of Lilliana Vazquez of TheLVGuide.com, Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily, and the pioneer of ethical fast fashion, Gwendolyn Floyd of Soko. These entreprenuers educated attendees on what life is like as an entrepreneur, how to learn from your mistakes, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who are as passionate about your business as you are!
"Do what you need to do to sustain yourself financially until you can do what you love full time." — Claire Sulmers
Every fashionista was in for a treat with the Stylist Panel, which included Christine Cameron of My Style Pill, The Glam App Co-Founder Joey Maalouf, Ashley Kiely of People StyleWatch, and film & TV costume designer Jackie Demeterio. Attendees were offered advice on communicating with clients, getting knowledge about someone else’s style, and the difference between personal, celebrity, and television/film styling, all while receiving a caffeine boost using the adorable coffee mugs provided by Effie’s Paper!
"Everyone and anyone is capable of opening a door for you!" — Joey Maalouf
Keynote #2: Vanessa Simmons, Entrepreneur + TV Personality
"There's no mistake that you can't come back from, unless you didn't learn the lesson from it." — Vanessa Simmons
"Do your best. Forget the rest." — Vanessa Simmons
The Brand Experience:
We successfully transformed the 4th floor of YOTEL New York into a #SimplyStylistNY shopping, pampering, and networking extravaganza! Attendees had the opportunity to shop through French Connection’s latest collection & snap pics using their photo booth, unwind with a massage by Soothe, document their #OOTD with a live fashion sketch by Holly Nichols, capture the moment & instantly print with FOTOFwd, and sip on delicious cocktails with Cheeky Home. Minted artwork tied the decor together and Perfect 365 was also there to demonstrate how to take the perfect selfie, but the day wouldn’t have been complete without The Glam App’s hair, makeup, and nail touch-ups to make sure everyone looked primped and polished! Plus, attendees jotted down notes, thoughts, and new phone numbers in their stylish notebooks provided by Erin Condren!
Breakout Sessions might have taken place at the end of the day, but they were a huge hit! We enlisted Kalyn Chandler of Effie’s Paper to provide key tools for building your brand, Morgan Kaye of Bloglovin’ to offer tips on monetizing your influence, Erin Armstrong of Enlightened Accounting to teach the basics of finances, Emily Men of The Wardrobes to give the lowdown on client communications, and James Nord of Fohr Card to chat about starting a business! Attendees walked away with insider knowledge about the industry they can apply towards their dream careers!
"Know your worth, calculate your full time commitment to your clients, and work with intent." — Erin Armstrong
And if the day couldn’t get any better, attendees walked away with VIP gift bags complete with beauty products, gift cards, pampering items, and lots of other goodies to keep the party going well after the networking, inspirational panels, and Brand Experience came to a close. We would like to send a HUGE thank you to all the brands who contributed their amazing products!
