5 DIY Beauty Remedies

DIY We’re just going to put it out there: we’re getting pretty sick of this Polar Vortex business – and our bodies are too (chapped lips to flaky elbows are just the start). To combat this case of the blues, online we’re sharing five DIY beauty remedies to spice up your beauty routine. The ingredients? Look no further than your kitchen pantry…

Hair: This cold weather can really make our scalps flaky (understatement of the year). Mix in four tablespoons of plain yogurt with one tablespoon of olive oil. Keep beating this mixture until its consistency and color resembles that of mayonnaise. Apply onto to hair and scalp before shampooing, erectile just like you apply hair oil or conditioner. Keep on for at least thirty minutes (the minimum amount of time it takes your hair/skin to absorb things) and then shampoo your hair. No need to apply conditioner. Follow with your usual styling routine. Your locks will be silky and luscious!

Lips: Use 3 teaspoons of olive oil, 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons sugar to get rid of those chapped lips. Mix them together until it forms a gritty paste. Use your fingertip to apply, let sit for about five minutes, and then rinse with warm water. Pucker up!

Nails: In a bowl of warm water, add a little bit of olive oil and let your nails soak for 15-30 minutes for a relaxing treatment for your digits. (Bored? We recommend catching up on your favorite fashion & beauty vloggers on Youtube – their videos are usually the perfect amount of time for a good soak).

Feet: Two words that make us shudder every time: cracked heels. To heal them (pun intended), apply coconut oil on them, pull on socks and then head to bed. Wake up in the morning and you’ll feel like you just had a pedicure!

Skin: Try whipping together an oatmeal bath. Add 2 cups oatmeal into the warm water, soak yourself and enjoy. Your skin will feel as good as new after!
